Scope and Contents

The records in this collection partially document the activities of the DeKalb American Legion Post #66 from 1919 to 1979. Types of records include: meeting minutes (1969-1971), membership records (1929-1942), newsletters, certificates, cemetery maps, and photographs. Due to the extensive gaps in the documentation, the research value of the collection is limited.

Scope and Contents

A descriptive book of members (1887-1918), journal of financial accounts (1892-1923), and a cash statement book (1900-1914) partially document the history of the Merritt Simonds Post of the Grand Army of the Republic.  Records from the Malta G.A.R. the Soldiers Memorial Association, and the Women’s Relief Corps complete the collection.  The historical information in Box 1 details the organization of the national G.A.R. and affiliated groups such as the Daughters and Sons of Veterans.

Scope and Contents Materials in the John L. Gent collection date from 1905 to 1946, but are predominantly from the years leading up to and including World War II (1936-1945). These artifacts represent a large portion of the collection and include foreign paper money and coins as well as military arm bands, patches, ribbons, pins, and belt buckles.
